A long, straight line usually means the Travel Tracker didn’t record any waypoints along that part of your journey. FindPenguins connects the last recorded location to the next available one, resulting in a straight line.
This can happen if GPS reception was unavailable, the Travel Tracker was switched off, or your phone ran out of battery.
How can I fix the route?
Open your trip in the iOS or Android app and select Edit route from the trip menu. You can then:
- Auto-complete the missing section: Use Auto route to fill in the gap. See How do I auto-complete my travel route?
- Use your photo locations: If you took photos along the way, you can use their saved locations to complete your route. See How do I complete my travel route using photos?
- Edit waypoints manually: Add missing waypoints or adjust existing ones. See How do I edit my travel route or add, move, or delete (inaccurate) waypoints?
How can I prevent this?
To reduce gaps in future recordings:
- Set Accuracy to High in the Travel Tracker settings. This records your location more frequently but uses more battery. See How do I increase the tracking accuracy?
- Keep your phone charged. Start the day with a full battery and recharge when needed.
- Check that the Travel Tracker is active before setting off. If you switch it off in the evening, remember to turn it back on the next day.
